DR. SERAPHIM P. PAPAJIANNIS
Dr. Seraphim P.
Papajiannins was born in Kastoria, Greece. After attending with honors
the local high school of his native Kastoria, he came to the USA in 1953
with a scholarship program and studied chemistry and subsequently
medicine. He specialized in Internal Medicine and held a private practice
for 30 years in Quincy MA and for 28 years he was also Medical Consultant
to the Federal Government, with numerous scientific papers appearing in
several medical journals and magazines.
Dr. Papajiannis in
addition to copious medical societies, he also served the AHEPA as
Vice-President of Athens Chapter 24 in Boston, MA. He is an active member
of both the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton, MA and St.
Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Quincy, MA where he served as President
for four years. For his dedication in serving the Greek Orthodox Faith,
Dr. Papajiannis, has received the Diocesan Award from the Greek Orthodox
Diocese of Boston.
Dr. Seraphim
Papagiannis is a member of the Pan-Macedonian Association, Chapter "Apostolos
Pavlos" of Brockton, MA. In 1991 he was elected Governor of Pan-Macedonian
Association, New England District. During the four years that he served as
Governor he was instrumental of sending 6200 signatures and thousands of
telegrams to then Secretary of State, James Baker, not to recognize FYROM.
He was able to raise $35.000.00 of the total $46.000.00 that the
Pan-Macedonian Association raised to buy and send medical equipment to the
municipal hospitals in Grevena, Kozani and Kastoria for the earthquake
victims. Mr. Papagiannis personally delivered some of the equipment.
In 1999 Dr.
Papajiannis was elected Supreme President of the Pan-Macedonian
Association. During his presidency a check of $6.000.00 was given to
Archbishop Demetrios on behalf of Pan-Macedonian Association for the
victims of the earthquake in Attica, Greece. It was also during his
presidency that he received official reassurance from the Ecumenical
Patriarch Bartholomew as well as from the Archbishop of Greece,
Christodoulos and the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Panteleimon that they
will not recognize under any circumstances the Church of Skopjie by the
name of "Macedonian". Archbishop Demetrios was made Honorary President of
Pan-Macedonia Association of USA during Dr. Papajiannis' presidency. Dr.
Seraphim Papajiannis has also served for several years as General
Secretary of the Alexander the Great Foundation. For all his services he
received a Certificate of Achievement from the Hellenic American National
Council and in July 2001 the Gold Medal from the Pan-Macedonian
Association of USA.
He continues to serve
the Association in several capacities and in November 2002 he was a member
of the Pan-Macedonian Delegation that visited Greece, Turkey and Cyprus,
promoting the Macedonian cause. In Athens the Delegation met with the
President of the Republic of Greece, K. Stephanopoulos, the Archbishop of
Athens and all Greece, Christodoulos, many ministers of the Greek
government and members of Parliament, officials of various Ministries and
Organizations, including "Athens 2004 Olympics". In Constantinople the
Delegation met with members of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate
and in Lefkosia with Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos, members of the
Cypriot Parliament and other dignitaries conferring with the UN Secretary
General Kofi Annan's resolution for Cyprus. It was a mission well
accomplished.
He married Iphigenia in 1963 and has a son Paul, two daughters Anastasia
and Maxine and three grandchildren, Michael, Stephan and Thomas.
